Nuggets Mai 2018/2

Nuggets May 2018/2:

Time and again I find that who we are and what’s really important to us vibrates subtly in our everyday life. Some of these things have literally changed lives. And it’s so easy to share. What have you been reading, thinking about, been inspired by or experienced in the last few weeks?

Here’s what’s been going on for me.

What I’m reading
Walter Mischel’s Marshmellow Experiment. If you’ve not heard about this, please do yourself a favour and watch this video. Mischel’s book is essentially about the ability to delay gratification, or ‘self-regulate’ as psychologists call it. Basically discipline – and how we can learn it. It’s one of the most important predictors of success later in life and the audio book is brilliantly engaging, well read and superbly constructed. Get your audible on!

What I’m excited about
I had a busy weekend of filming with the wonderful team at OWN Productions and 6 hand-picked coaches, all eager to dive into the science of positive psychology. This led to 12 hours of material which we will convert into the long-awaited online format of these popular weekends. If you’re one of the many people who have been asking about this, watch this space. Editing is in full swing and soon I’ll be asking a few select people to test-ride this programme and provide me with some feedback. If you’d like to get on the waiting list for this, let me know!

What I’ve been pondering
“You don’t have time – you make time.” Wise words from my Dad. As our diaries get fuller and fuller, we have to prioritize. We all have the same 24 hours is each day. This is a reminder that for most of us, when we say “I don’t have time”, what we’re really saying is “I prioritize something else.”

What I’m recommending
I love what The School of Life does. Their values, mission and materials are so aligned with what I believe in. I always felt that founder Alain (de Botton) and I should be friends. Their YouTube channel is filled with excellent, pragmatic and tangible content informed by philosophy, psychology and literature and is aimed at helping people live better, more informed and more examined lives. Their online shop is full of amazing books, gifts and little gems. Check it out!

What I’m selling
Two thirds of places are now gone for the July training weekend in Existential Coaching. Click here to book your place and join us from 27-28 July 2018.

Bring a friend and save 30% on your ticket or share and you both get 15% off. I’ve also just closed a book deal with the publishing house Routledge, for my introduction to this exciting approach to coaching, so if you haven’t grabbed your free copy of the ebook, you can still download it from my website for a limited time.

If you would like to share your inspiring or thought-provoking nuggets here, then please do. And please do send me any questions or comments you have. I’d love to hear from you!

And finally …

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) have come into effect today. Contrary to how many people seem to have interpreted this new law, it’s not necessary for you to re-opt in to email lists such as this one. However, I would like to invite you to have a look at how I’m treating your data (in this case, your name and email address). I would also like to give you the opportunity to unsubscribe from this list (see the link at the bottom of this email) in case you find something that’s not agreeable with you. If you have any questions, please do to reach out!

Cheers,
Yannick
